How to Lace Up Your Dress

Important: A corset dress needs to be gently tightened to shape the body and create the correct fit. You will feel light pressure around the torso — this is normal. Once the corset is laced and tightened, the dress settles into its proper position and supports the body as intended.

  1. Once the dress is on, the helper starts lacing from the top. Please make sure both ribbon ends are the same length so the lacing stays neat and even.
  2. The bride gently presses the corset back at the waist, and the helper fastens the small hook on the skirt.
  3. The helper threads the laces through all the loops — just placing the ribbons for now, without tightening. Before tightening, the bride lifts her bust slightly and settles it comfortably inside the bodice.
  4. If the bust is fuller, the bride can support it with her hands while the helper gently tightens the top part of the corset. Once the upper part feels secure, she can relax her hands, and the helper continues tightening through the waist.
  5. When the laces are fully threaded and you begin tightening the corset, the small hook on the skirt can be unhooked so it doesn’t interfere with the tightening process. Once the corset is fully tightened, the hook on the skirt can be fastened again.
  6. Some dresses have extra small loops along the waistline on the skirt — if your dress has them, please thread the ribbons through these loops as well. They help keep the back smooth and the tension even.
  7. When everything feels snug and comfortable, the helper ties two small knots and gently tucks the ribbon ends inside the skirt.
  8. After that, the hook and zipper are closed.
  9. If small folds appear on the skin of the back, the helper can simply smooth them out with a hand — this makes the back look beautifully clean and even.
